FarEastTone to Cooperate with NTT DoCoMo on IoT Applications

By Thousand Cranes Far EasTone Telecommunications Co. will work with Japan’s NTT DoCoMo to develop enterprise and Internet of Things (IoT) applications, Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported.
Following a meeting with shareholders, Far EasTone President Yvonne Li told the Central News Agency her company’s strategic partnership with DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile operator, may begin with healthcare solutions for hospitals. The two companies may also work to increase enterprises’ manufacturing efficiency by deploying robots at their factories, she said.
However, regarding applications for use in the 5G wireless era, Li said the next-generation wireless technology remains in the initial phase of research and development at DoCoMo and Far EasTone will continue to “pay close attention” to it.
DoCoMo, one of the biggest foreign investors of Far EasTone with a 4.7-percent stake, partnered with Far EasTone in 2014 to offer unlimited Wi-Fi roaming services in Japan to Far EasTone’s customers.
In March, DoCoMo and Finland’s Nokia, the world’s third biggest telecom equipment maker, demonstrated their early technical progress on 5G radio equipment at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry. …read more
